Welcome to the New School Year!!

It is awesome to be back at school. It is so fun to back our bags, meet new friends and start off a new grade. Grade one is a very exciting year. Your child will change so much over the year and you will be surprised how quickly they learn to read and write. We learn so many things each day. It is an exciting journey. I look forward to getting to know your children and learning about them this fall. Welcome to 1E!

Geometry

The grade ones worked at cooperation and team work to create shape castles. we talked about the properties of shapes before we began. We discovered which shapes would slide and which would roll. They knew that they needed a base of shapes that were flat, straight and stackable. They used the curved shapes for the top. The castles were very detailed. We then drew our castle and wrote about the 3D shapes we used.

May

May has been a wonderful month. Thanks so much to all of the special ladies that came to our mother's day tea. The children really enjoyed hosting you in our classroom. It was great fun and created lots of special memories too! This month the children have been very excited to study the caterpillars that have come to stay in our classroom. We are observing their metamorphosis very closely. This weekend the caterpillars all made a chrysalis while we were gone for the weekend. Some of the chrysalis are moving as they hand upside down. They are transforming before our eyes. It is very exciting. The children are also really enjoying studying shapes. We are looking at shapes in our world and describing them. This week we will discover shapes using geoboards, tangrams, artwork, literature and a shape walk. It was really fun listening to the shapes show and tell. The children describes their shape for their classmates and will write about it. Our world is full of amazing shapes. I posted a few pictures of our last few days for you to see us "working hard and having fun"! Have a great week. Mrs Effa
