Monday 12 December 2011

We have been working so hard on our writing. Today we wrote about where would be a great vacation spot for Mrs Claus and what would be the most special gift we could ever recieve. Last week we wrote about being compassionate and also an application to work as one of Santa's reindeer. We also wrote letters to our pen pals in Texas and gave them a Christmas greeting The students are getting better at sounding out the words and using the words of the week in their writing. We will have a great colleciton of writing in our folders!

We have also been working on addition and subtraction. It would be helpful to play any games at home with dice to have your child practise adding up the numbers.

We are also busy practising for the Christmas concert next week. We have an afternoon performance at 1:30 and in the evening at 7:00. We sure are looking forward to entertaining you.

This week is our last spelling test before Christmas. Don't forget we are dismissed at 2:00 on December 22. Have a great week!

Pumpkin Carving

We had an awesome time today carving our pumpkins. The students first estiamted how many seeds we would find and then they worked in groups of five to make their jack-o-lanterns. Be sure to check out our video. The students will be able to read most of the words that go with the video. I will send home a printed copy for them to share at home.

Reading Logs

The students were very excited to come home today with their reading log. They each had a zip lock bag with a recording book and a new story. Enjoy your special reading time together.

We had lots of fun today making ten frame flash cards. The students got into groups to quiz each other. Use your cards at home to talk about which numbers are more and less. Ask your child how many empty spaces are on each number. Have them put two cards together and add up the numbers.
